The Radical Evolution of the IT Culture

These are the primordial times of IT culture. The IT industry believes the advanced nature of their high-tech tools and environments means their lifecycle processes are equally advanced. This belief is flawed. In reality, the state-of-the-art IT lifecycle processes are as advanced as the processes used by Neanderthals to build huts.

Before you disagree, answer the following question:
Are the abysmal results typical of current IT projects due to IT's primitive processes or gross incompetence?

KT1 Design believes the performance issue is primitiveness not incompetence.

KT1 Design also believes that customers, motivated by hard economic conditions will investigate ways to reduce IT development and delivery costs beyond outsourcing.  Thus, customer economics will trigger the evolutionary advance of the IT culture.

Triggering IT Evolution: Chicxulub - The Asteroid Project

It is inevitable.  Every company will suffer the impact of the IT Asteroid Project. The IT asteroid project is a project that crashes so hard it triggers evolutionary change within the company. The changes a business will undergo will be equivalent to the changes the earth underwent after the asteroid hit Chicxulub (shick-shah-lube) in Yucatan, Mexico, 65 million years ago.

The primary effect of the IT asteroid project will be customer enlightenment. The asteroid project will awaken customers to the fact that their failure to provide IT with accurate information defining the required capabilities forces IT to use a trial-and-error process to develop and deliver the desired capabilities. The asteroid project will force customers to accept the reality that they are the root cause of IT project failures and the 40% rework penalty.

Prediction: Once customers acknowledge they are the root cause of IT inefficiency, they will pursue the changes necessary to improve IT efficiency.
