IT Architecture Enterprise Resources Governance Standards Applied Business System Technology Organization Deliverables The Key to Successful Evolutionary Advancement KT1 Design predicts the evolutionary advance of the IT development process will follow the evolutionary pattern of traditional construction. Traditional construction evolved from the ability to build rudimentary huts to the ability to build highly complex structures. The key aspect of this evolutionary advance is the application of architecture prior to the construction process. The requirement for architecture increases in direct proportion to the complexity of the proposed structure. Today, IT attempts to build highly complex systems with minimal architecture (minimal determined by measurement against the NPA standard). To evolve the IT development process to levels of greater efficiency, IT customers must learn to complete the architecture prior to initiating development. This does not mean that customers must become architects. It means that customers must engage a qualified architect to design, specify, plan and supervise the customer's IT projects. This architecture engagement model is the same as the model used successfully in traditional construction. |
